[Germany] 미셸베르거 농장: 농가를 재해석한 호텔

‘미셸베르거 농장(Michelberger Farm)’은 오감을 위한 장소다. 씨앗을 심는 순간부터 음식이 식탁에 오르기까지 미식의 전 과정을 하나의 경험으로 엮어낸다. 건물은 전통적이면서도 지속 가능한 농업 방식과 긴밀하게 연결되어 자연과의 관계를 건축적으로 드러낸다.

Michelberger Farm is a place for all senses. From planting seeds to serving food at the table, the entire gastronomic process is woven into a single spatial experience. The building is closely connected to traditional and sustainable agriculture, expressing its relationship with nature through architecture.

 

 

미셸베르거 농장은 벽돌과 목재로 지어진다. 두 재료는 마치 음식을 다루듯 가공된다. 수확하고, 땅에서 꺼내 건조시키고, 열을 가해 조립하는 과정을 거친다. 그 결과 다양한 질감과 향, 색감이 어우러진 건축이 완성된다. 

The Michelberger Farm is a brick and wood building. Both materials are processed the way we treat our food. Harvested, taken out of the ground, dried, heated and assembled, and full of exciting textures, scents and colour hues.

 

 

이 프로젝트는 안뜰을 중심으로 네 개의 동이 둘러싼 구조를 재해석한다. 폐허로 남아 있던 한 동은 철거하고, 그 자리에 새로운 호텔 건물을 세웠다. 기존 건물에서 나온 일부 목재 보는 실내외 대형 테이블로 재사용했다. 과거의 물성이 현재의 공간 속에 이어지는 방식이다.

Based on a 19th-century farm typology, the project reinterprets the traditional four-wing ensemble organized around an inner courtyard. The ruined wing between the court and the fields was replaced with a new hotel building, while wooden beams from the former structure were reused as large tables indoors and outdoors. In this way, material traces of the past continue within the new space.

 

 

재해석된 네 번째 동은 부지의 중심을 이룬다. 음식이 사람들을 한 지붕 아래로 모이게 하는 힘을 건축적으로 상징하는 장소다. 안뜰을 완전히 닫지 않고, 1층의 유리 파사드를 통해 시선이 뒤편의 들판으로 자연스럽게 이어지도록 이어지도록 열어 두었다.

The newly interpreted fourth wing becomes the heart of the property, embodying food’s unique ability to gather people under one roof. Rather than fully enclosing the courtyard, the ground floor’s glass façade allows the view to extend seamlessly into the fields beyond.

 

 

전통적 외벽은 안팎이 전환되어 약간 높아진 플린스*를 형성하고 그 위로 두 개의 벽돌 요소가 돌출된다. 하나는 주방 공간을 구성하고 다른 하나는 벽난로를 품은 채 상층으로 이어진다. 이는 지붕을 지지하는 구조적 제스처를 만든다.

The traditional brick façade is turned inside out to form a slightly elevated plinth, from which two brick elements are extruded. One defines the kitchen block, while the other contains a fireplace and extends upward, visually supporting the hovering roof.

상층에는 ‘코지Cosy 룸’이라 불리는 소형 객실이 배치된다. 수도원 셀*을 연상시키는 이 공간은 침대와 조명, 간결한 수납만을 갖춘다. 일반적인 호텔 객실의 기능은 공용 공간으로 확장된다. 발코니형 복도에는 업무를 위한 책상이 마련되어 있고 두 개의 욕실과 지붕 테라스의 욕조는 여덟 개 객실이 함께 사용한다.

Upstairs, a series of small ‘Cosy’ rooms are arranged, reminiscent of monastic cells. Each room contains only the essentials—a bed, a lamp, and minimal storage. Most typical hotel functions are relocated to shared spaces. Desks along the balcony corridor offer places for work, while two bathrooms and a rooftop bathtub are shared by the eight rooms.

창은 낮은 위치에 계획되었다. 방에 들어서면 초록 들판이 프레임처럼 펼쳐지고 침대에 앉으면 나무 수관과 하늘의 수평선이 들어온다. 지붕을 가르는 파노라마 창은 숲 너머까지 이어지는 전경을 담아낸다. 벽돌 타워 상부의 지붕은 부지에서 가장 높은 지점으로서 360도의 조망을 제공한다. 황새 둥지를 닮은 이 공간은 목욕과 휴식을 위한 은밀한 장소로 기능한다.

The windows are positioned low. Upon entering the room, only the green field is framed in view; when seated on the bed, the horizon above the tree canopies and the sky gradually appear. A panoramic window cuts through the roof, offering views across the fields to the forest beyond. At the highest point of the property, the brick tower’s rooftop provides a 360-degree vista. Like a stork’s nest, it serves as a secluded place for bathing and relaxation.

 

 

이곳에서의 아침은 건축의 의도를 또렷하게 드러낸다. 침실 문을 열면 아래층 주방에서 들려오는 조리 소리가 공간을 채운다. 침대에서 바라보던 들판의 작물은 아침 식사가 되어 식탁에 오른다. 시골의 친구 집에 머무는 듯한 감각은 건축과 농업, 그리고 미식이 하나의 경험으로 이어질 때 완성된다.

Morning at Michelberger Farm reveals the architectural intention most clearly. Opening the bedroom door, one hears the kitchen team preparing breakfast downstairs. The berries and crops from the field seen from the bed return as a meal on the table. The feeling is less like staying in a hotel and more like waking up in a friend’s country house—where architecture, agriculture, and gastronomy merge into a single experience.
